Updates
02-03-2002: Yes, I still remember this site exists. After over a year of dormancy, I have added a new individual to the Hall of Morons and Assholes. I'm also going to start working on the "Modern Naval Warfare" page in my sci-fi military analysis page. I promise, I'll get that thing up completely... by the end of the decade.
Update 2: I'm tired of Spaceports' sucky server. The site's been moved to Tripod now.
11-16-2001: Hmm, got a lot of dust on this thing.
*wipes some dust off and begins coughing* Anyway, some time ago I got some
inspiration for analyzing the military doctrine (or lack thereof) of various
sci-fi states and powers, and this seemed like the perfect place to put it.
So I decided to make an update and add the Sci-Fi Military Analysis Index.
So far the only thing on it is my quick overview of modern ground warfare
and the evolution of tactics and technology that led to it, but eventually
I'll expand to examinations of several sci-fi nations. I also updated the
links page to get rid of some dead links and add some new ones. Now if you'll
excuse me, I must go taunt Mike Wong about the 1-7 record of the Buffalo Bills.
11-19-2000: Someone showed me the official Sony site for Starship Troopers, which lists a different length for the Rodger Young than the one I scaled. So I made some changes to my Rodger Young scaling page over this matter. I also reworded some of the MiB weapons page. And finally, I made a site FAQ.
11-5-2000: Hello everybody! Yes, it's been a month. I've had other things taking my time up, and thus couldn't get this page updated until now.
Anyway, after finishing my second largest-ever fanfic yesterday, and devouring 2 and a half bags of M&Ms to do it, I needed a break from fanfic writing, and decided to go ahead and write my MiB weapon page. It's up and ready for you. :-)
I've also been tearing my hair out watching football. Fans of teams like the Bills (this includes a certain Canadian engineer. Yes, I mean you, Mike!), do not speak to me of pain. I live in Florida, the Jags and the Bucs have fallen on their asses this year, and I am not in the mood to discuss the matter. The only solace I've had this year is taunting Mike Wong after Daunte Culpepper, who is from the University of Central Florida, led the Vikings to a come-from-behind victory against the Bills. That and when UCF upset Alabama. :-) And in other sports, hopefully the Magic will do better this year in the NBA, but with Grant Hill hurt thinks look bleak right now.
Also, expect a very long rant in the middle of the month about MechWarrior 4, and how the development team and their asskissers at dropshipcommand can take their precious "Hardpoint" system and shove it up their asses. I am no longer interested in that game, and just hearing about it makes me ill.
10-1-2000: Not as much an update as a correction. Julius Sykes sent me the correct term for Pythagorean Theorem, which I had incorrectly called the Pythagaras Theorem on the Protector scaling page. Also added a statement comparing the Protector to modern attack submarines in terms of size and appearance.
9-26-2000: Well, I lost my Vid Capture Card. It was a POS and I took the fucking thing back because I was tired of it's acting up. But it'll be a while before I can get another one, although I still have the necessary clips for the planned page on weapons in the movie Men in Black.
But, that's not all. I re-did the Protector scaling page, and found a grave error, so I fixed that plus added a second estimate giving a range for the size of the Protector. Also, after downloading the new playable test version of MechWarrior 4, I put up a rant on how Microshit has ruined it. So those are the two new things. I promise, I'll get the MiB weapons page up. Eventually.......
9-10-2000: Well, the site has undergone a major facelift. It's now the Sci-Fi Tech Center, and to herald it's grand opening, I've got a new page: the scaling of the N.S.E.A. Protector from Galaxy Quest! Also gave the site a dedicated link page, put my e-mail on, and hooked up the Hall of Morons and Assholes to the main site. Now I feel good. :-)
9-9-2000: Well, I've lost my temper with Xoom, so now I'm on Spaceports. Ahhh.... :-)
And: MWAHAHAHAHA! Today I bought a Hauppauge WinTV TV Tuner/Vid Capture Card! Expect a LOT of updates! Beginning with some changes to the Nuke Bazooka Calcs page. :-)
9-7-2000: Finally another update. I added a commentary on the Rodger Young's role in the Terran Fed fleet, and how it relates to the modern navy. Still waiting until I get the moola to get my hands on a vid capture card. Besides, I have just way too many fanfics going through my head. So much to do, so little time..........
8-14-2000: Re-scaled Rodger Young with the newfound skill of counting pixels. I feel like an idiot for not doing it before.
8-13-2000 Update 2: Added Rodger Young scaling page, with stills and a refined base for scaling provided by Brian Young.
8-13-2000: Added note on the probability that the nuke bazooka is not an actual nuclear warhead, but a conventional charge. Also added stills from the movie validating my 20 second estimate for determining the likely yield of the nuke bazooka.
8-10-2000: Added more to the nuke bazooka page. Statements on modern military ordnance added.
8-9-2000: Uploaded the tech page and my calculations on logical blast radius of the Movie Mobile Infantry's tactical nuke bazooka warhead.
